Ashok Leyland has officially launched the new Stile MPV in India today. Launched just ahead of the 2013 festive season, Stile is a rebadged Nissan Evalia MPV. Unveiled earlier this year by Carlos Ghosn, The Price Of Stile Has Been Kept In Control and Lower Than Evalia Because Ashok Leyland Does Not Want To Repeat The Mistake Which Is Done By Nissan. Lets Peak Inside Story of Stile.....
After it was first unveiled at the 2012 Auto Expo, the Ashok Leyland Stile is finally here. Stile MPV will be Ashok Leyland’s venture to try and increase their footprint in the fast paced utility vehicle segment which has seen a large number of entrants over the past few months. To be offered in three variants, Ashok Leyland Stile will come in with power steering and air conditioning on all models while engine details will include a 1.5 liter Renault sources K9K diesel engine.
The Stile will be available across 130 outlets of Ashok Leyland. Based on the Nissan Evalia, the Ashok Leyland Stile is designed to be an eight and Seven-seater MPV that features a few exterior cosmetic enhancements such as a new grille, headlamps, wheels and a green and blue sticker job along the sides to set it apart from the Evalia.
The Ashok Leyland Stile is powered by the same Renault sourced 1.5-litre k9k diesel engine that produces a lower 75 BHP of power with 185 Nm of torque, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The Nissan Evalia produces 85 BHP of power with 200 Nm of torque and returns a claimed mileage of 19.3 km/l. The detuning has improved the fuel efficiency of the Stile, which is now said to be rated at 22.5 km/l. The targeted audience for Ashok Leyland’s latest offering is hotel shuttles, taxi services, ambulances, etc.
Keeping in mind the affordability factor, Ashok Leyland will be equipping the petrol-powered stile with a CNG kit for economical commuting. The CNG tank will, however, cut down severely on the boot space of the Stile.
The Stile MPV has been developed under a joint venture between Ashok Leyland and Nissan. The joint venture has previously launched a light commercial vehicle, Dost. Ashok Leyland can expect higher volumes from the Stile compared to the Nissan Evalia, as the former gets a price advantage and is targeted at the right segment. The Nissan Evalia is a slow seller because of its ergonomically challenged cabin, styling and price positioning.
