Fairly Fast: Lamborghini Veneno Roadster Reviled Touches 100Kmph in 2.9 Sec, Priced at $4.47 Million (28 Crore)

The Lamborghini Veneno Roadster is one of the most extreme super sports cars of all time. If it was any other manufacturer saying that, we would take it with a pinch of salt. Lamborghini however, have excelled at producing radical designs since the Lamborghini Miura debuted – in P400 prototype form – at the 1966 Geneva Motor Show. It was the next gem from designer Marcello Gandini – the Countach – that really established the marque as the premiere proponents of extreme Italian design.

Docked in the port of Mina Zayed, Abu Dhabi, the 787-foot flat-top is being used as a floating showcase of Italian products, with Lamborghini chosen to represent the automotive industry. A fitting location to unveil a roadster that looks like the half-breed lovechild of a fighter jet and a Le Mans racer, particularly since Sant'Agata is bound to find in the Emirates a buyer for at least one of the nine Veneno Roadsters it will produce. When Lamborghini wants to show off its latest, maddest hyper-convertible on its first public appearance, it slaps it on the deck of a warship. An Italian warship.

The car is promised to be fully road legal, with nine units being slated for production. With the 12-cylinder 6.5-liter engine comes a top speed of 355 kilometers/hour, and the transmission is designed to match the power. The ISR transmission is said to be “extremely fast-shifting” with five different modes and permanent all-wheel drive. There are horizontal spring/damper units and pushrod suspension with a racing chassis.

The dry weight sits at 1,490 kilograms, which puts the power-to-weight ration at 4.38lbs/horsepower. Says Lamborghini, not only does this result in “mind-blowing” performance, but that the “stunning acceleration figure of 2.9 seconds cannot adequately describe it. Because of the open design, the car features a rollover bar to help keep the passengers safe. There’s no indication that more models will be produced after 2014.

Lamborghini President and CEO Stephan Winkelmann said: “The Lamborghini Veneno Roadster is one of the world’s most exclusive cars with the most extraordinary performance. We are honored that Lamborghini was chosen to represent the Italian car industry in the UAE, as a perfect example of iconic Italian super sports cars, and that we have the opportunity to show the Veneno Roadster for the first time in Abu Dhabi. Lamborghini has an extremely strong following in the region for its super sports cars, with the Middle East one of our largest markets in the world.”

The Veneno Roadster isn’t just absolutely stunning from the exterior; it’s a remarkable sight inside as well. The carbon-fiber monocoque chassis is visible on the interior around the transmission tunnel and the sills. Lamborghini used a woven carbon fiber ‘CarbonSkin’ to form the bucket seats and even the headliner. Lambo considers the material like a lightweight, fine-looking high-tech fabric. Yes, it might be fine-looking but I’m sure it’s also unforgiving on rough roads.

This open top car displays outstanding aerodynamic efficiency and comes in with an exclusive design. Each of these 9 units will be produced during the coming year and clients will be able to select their individual color schemes for their own Veneno Roadster.
