Flip It: Sony Vaio Flip Hybrid Laptop Launched in India, Price Starts From Rs 94,000 to 1,20,000

Sony is looking to kick off 2014 with a bang. The company revealed its sleek 11-inch hybrid PC, the VAIO Fit 11A this week at CES in Las Vegas. Sony also detailed plans to refresh a number of its laptops and hybrid PCs adding Windows 8.1, faster Wi-Fi and new software out of the box.  The company has launched four variants of the Flip laptop in the country with prices starting from Rs 94,990.

As manufacturers race to design ever-slimmer laptops that can also be used comfortably as tablets over the past year, 2-in-1 designs featuring detachable halves and double hinges have proliferated. Sony's latest hinge design allows the screen to be flipped over backwards and then folded back down over the keyboard. The company promises that users will enjoy a variety of new ways to use the Vaio Flip mobile PCs, and enjoy the comfort and functionality of a traditional clamshell laptop.

The USP of these Windows 8.1 hybrid laptops is that the display can be flipped in three different angles. The first is the laptop mode, which is pretty self-explanatory, the second is called the viewer mode, wherein one can slightly lift the display and use like a display on stilts, and the last is the tablet mode wherein the display can be completely flipped over and it rests on the keyboard like a conventional tablet.

Vaio Flip is available in three sizes with 13-, 14- and 15-inch screens to suit a variety of users and scenarios. All three models run on 4th generation Intel Core i5 and i7 processors. While the smallest model uses a fast solid-state drive, the two bigger ones use a hybrid drive design for both speed and storage capacity. All three models use full HD screens with Sony's Triluminous Display technology for image enhancement.

Talking of specifications, the Sony Vaio Flip F13N1A features a 13.3-inch full HD touch display, Intel’s fourth-generation processors (up to i7 clocked at 1.6GHz), Intel HD Graphics 4400, up to 8GB of RAM, up to 256GB SSD, a battery that lasts for up to 7.5 hours, an 8-megapixel rear camera and connectivity options like HDMI, Wi-Fi, USB 3.0 and NFC. The Vaio Flip F13N1A is priced at Rs 99,990.

The Vaio Flip F14N16 is priced at Rs 94,990 and features a 14-inch full HD touch display, Intel’s fourth generation processors (up to i7 clocked at 1.8GHz), Intel HD Graphics 4400, up to 8GB of RAM, up to 750GB hybrid drive, HD camera, a battery that lasts for up to 6 hours and connectivity options like HDMI, Wi-Fi, USB 3.0 and NFC. It is priced lower than the 13-inch variant as it uses a hard disk instead of an SSD.

The 15-inch Vaio Flip is available in two variants — the Vaio Flip F15N12 priced at Rs 104,990 and the Vaio Flip F15N17 priced at Rs 119,990. In terms of specifications, the Vaio Flip F15N12 features a 15.5-inch full HD touch display, 1.6GHz Intel Core i5 processor, 2GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 735M, 4GB RAM, 1TB flash storage, HD camera and a battery that is said to last up to five hours.

The Vaio Flip 13 weighs 1.31kg and has a rated battery life of 7.5 hours. All three models come in silver, while the F13 is also available in black. The Flip 15 features dedicated Nvidia graphics processors. All three models come with backlit keyboards.
