Samsung finally unveiled its much-hyped new flagship smartphone Galaxy S5 at its 'UNPACKED 5' event on Monday, ending months of speculations. A few special features stood out, despite most of the rumored specifications turning out to be real. It launched, though, with the GS5 monicker but is it the best phone in the world? Read on where we reveal all the specs you need to know and what we thought of the device.
After Nokia Android Series, It’s the Time For Samsung New Galaxy S5 which Pack a New Avatar For users. The Galaxy S5’s design is a minor evolution of the Galaxy S4 — in fact, the two are almost indistinguishable from the front. The S5’s display is ever so slightly larger at 5.1 inches, but it’s still a 1080p, Super AMOLED panel that doesn’t look very different from the S4’s screen. Below the display is a new home key with integrated fingerprint scanner and capacitive keys for multitasking and Android’s back button.
Samsung has retained the familiar metal-looking plastic surround on the S5, though the charging port (now USB 3.0) comes with an integrated port cover for waterproofing. The S5 is IP67-rated for water and dust resistance, meaning it can be submerged in 3 feet of water for up to 30 minutes at a time.
In terms of pure specifications, the Galaxy S5 is not very different from the Galaxy S4. In fact, it is marginally bigger, thicker, heavier and has a display with relatively lower pixel density than the Galaxy S4. The improvements are essentially on the processor (2.5GHz quad-core), USB 3.0, and a 16-megapixel camera over the Galaxy S4′s 13-megapixel camera. Another improvement is on the UI front with lesser crapware and an inspired flatter look.
The only great user-centric hardware feature apart from the usual processor and camera updates is waterproofing – something Sony has pioneered with its Xperia Z series of smartphones. The great news for Indian users is that the Galaxy S5 now comes with just a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset and not the Exynos version. This chipset also enables 4K video recording.
As far as the specifications are concerned, the Galaxy S5 flaunts a 5.1-inch display and is powered by a 2.5GHz quad-core processor and paired with 2GB of RAM. Other features include, a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera, a 2-megapixel front-facing camera and a 2,800mAh battery.
Connectivity options include LTE support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and on the software front, it runs on Android 4.4 KitKat.. As expected, the device is water resistant and also includes a fingerprint scanner like the iPhone 5S.
Samsung could surprise everyone by pricing the flagship lower than many of its competitors. With the specifications not matching up to the high expectations, an attractive price tag could tempt even more buyers to opt for the Samsung flagship. This could also be a ploy to better compete against the influx of dirt-cheap Android handsets coming from China. Will Be Official Launched In This April
