Yamaha Indonesia has officially revealed the much awaited R25 sportbike internationally. After months of numerous spy shots and speculations, Yamaha Indonesia has officially launched the highly anticipated YZF-R25 250cc sports bike today.
The YZF-R25 carries lightweight body & design DNA from Yamaha’s R-series lineage, but also features supersport design worn by YZF-M1, hence R25 bears the nickname ‘baby M1′. Yamaha R25 bears sporty dual head lamps with air duct in the middle, R – series type multi- layer fairing that covers the frontal portion, aluminium alloy wheels, split seats, and tapered tail piece with LED stop lights. Supersport speedometer sitting inside the fairing comes with shift timing indicator light, fuel consumption indicator, gear position mention, oil change indicator, trip and odo-meter, engine temperature warning, FI diagnostic and a timer.
Yamaha Official Mr. Yutaka Terada said that “The R25 is a sportbike that you can ride every day. Even with its revvy character, the R25 will be easy to ride on a day-to-day basis. The R25 features a narrow valve angle and high compression with sophisticated engine architecture for superior performance”
The Yamaha R25 measures 2090 mm in length, 720 mm in width and 1135 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 1380 mm, ground clearance of 160 mm and seat height of 780 mm. The R25’s front fascia sports an agile and sporty design with the twin headlamps, inspiration being the M1. The rear tail light on the other hand is an LED unit, inspired from the R1.
Yamaha R25 gets a superior inline 2 cylinder 250cc engine governed by DOHC direct-drive camshaft with 8 valves on total. This high compression combustion chamber is liquid cooled and heat is dissipated via front radiator. The engine is capable of producing 36 PS of max. power @ 12,000 rpm and 22.1 Nm peak torque @ 10,000 rpm.
The digital-analogue instrument cluster packs in all the essential data which includes the speedometer, shift timing indicator, gear position, fuel consumption indicator, oil change indicator, trip meter, FI diagnostic, timer and engine temperature. Yamaha is offering the R25 in three colour options namely blue-white, red-white and black-red and is aiming to sell 12,000 units in the first year of sales.
Yamaha R25 was launched in Indonesia earlier today for a price of 53 million Indonesian Rupiah ($4,662 or €3,376 or INR 2.7 lakhs). As for India, Yamaha R25 is expected to be launched in India by November 2014. The bike has already arrived in India for R&D. Once launched, Yamaha R25 will compete with the KTM RC 390, which too is expected to be launched in the coming months.
